Dwell on Design – Form meets function with a sustainable spin
Dwell on Design, the largest design show on the West Coast, at the Los Angeles Convention Center was my first time attending a trade show as exhibitor. This weekend, I volunteered with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) on their third year at Dwell. A few designers and myself represented ASID as we provided information to the expo attendees and possible industry partners. It was a really fun experience to speak with people and answer questions in a casual environment where you know everyone there is interested in design regardless of which side of the table they stand. On Friday when I first arrived, my immediate thought was, I died and went to designer heaven. I asked a fellow designer, may I move in? He says “yes my dear, do whatever you want put only until Sunday at 5pm.” We were in the same boat of being in utter adoration of this show’s products & style. Read more…

Eco-Home Tour with a Pioneer in Los Angeles
Recently, I met Julia from Eco-Home Network, she is a true pioneer in the Green revolution that is happening now. She has been touring people through her eco-friendly home since 1988 and has hosted more that 15,000 people from around the world. Her goal was to make a cultural change and shift the way we think and behave to have a more sustainable lifestyle. She is quite an inspiration. Please hurry to go on a tour before she retires this June. I am sure she is quite proud that she has seen our society’s shift in the recent years, but more still needs to be done. Read more…

Duong Designs, a lively interior design company centered on “creating environments that promote a daily sense of joie de vivre”, has recently teamed up with Kay Angel to build a “fully sustainable off-the-grid” orphanage and “provide a home and education for abandoned children in Jacmel, Haiti”. Not only are they working hard for a great cause, but they are also “going green” with the virtual office. Christine Duong, founder of Duong Designs, has a background in computer business consulting and personally lives a eco-friendly lifestyle; as a “design-entrepreneur”, she is joining the design revolution by optimizing technology, including streamlining communication, collaborating online, and increasing efficiency.

Zenergy Home – LA’s 1st comprehensive remodel to Net Zero Energy
Last Friday, April 2 was an exciting day because I attend LA’s first Net Zero Energy House-meaning they do NOT have to draw power from the grid. The one-story home was originally built in 1950 and includes 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2,450 sq. ft. of living space, and a pool. The home’s size reflects the national average for square footage. The house only needed 50% of number of solar panels as a normal house this size because of the energy efficient design. Read more…
